A reclaimed colliery site in Yorkshire is offering schoolchildren and college students a glimpse of the future.
The Earth Centre at Denaby Main near Doncaster - a new park of 350 acres - is offering a vision of what the 21st century could be like using ideas to promote sustainable development. The centre features trails through natural and reclaimed countryside in the valley of the river Don.
It has recently been awarded Pounds 50 million from the Millennium Fund and is now running a programme of educational activities for schools and colleges. Art and recycling workshops are available as well as visiting exhibitions and special interest talks.
Pond dipping, a living willow tunnel, river trips and a floating classroom are just a few of the attractions of particular interest to children.
