The green Mail

The Department for Education and Skills is coming over all ecological.

Asked to comment on the fact that last week's announcement about extended school days had been made before, a source said: "We're an environmentally-friendly department - we like to recycle."

Surprisingly, the same impulse seems to be guiding the Daily Mail. "How the war on grammars deepened the class divide," ran a headline this week over a story about research by the LSE for the Sutton Trust. "End of grammar schools has helped widen class divisions" ran a headline two months ago.

Same research, same story. But has the divide widened or deepened? We need to know.
