MANY teachers, pupils and parents are ignorant about how to protect the environment, according to a new survey. The research, commissioned by Barclaycard, found that efforts to educate people on safeguarding the environment had failed to make a lasting impact. Only 48 per cent of the teachers interviewed knew that CFCs were gases responsible for damaging the ozone layer. And only 3 per cent of eight to 11-year-olds had heard of global warming. Half of parents felt they had no responsibility to teach their children about green issues. One in four thought recycling was a waste of time.
