Andrew Stanley wants a General Teaching Council composed entirely of elected members (“GTC comes at too high a price”, TES, March 2). There would have been nothing wrong with the mix of elected and appointed members, if it had been merely an interim council.
This interim bodyshould have consulted widely on the role and powers of a GTC. It should then have sought teachers’ endorsement of its constitution and budget before holding an election for all of its seats and posts.
