GTC’s demise more mocked than mourned

Although I’m a freelance languages teacher and former head of department, as a supply teacher I only undertook the occasional day’s work, as I’ve also provided classes in colleges and local industry. I decided not to apply for membership of the GTC as there was no reduced rate for part-time teachers. This, of course, precluded me teaching in schools. I must admit to a certain amount of regret at the abolishment of the GTC, as it poses me with a problem. What other excuse can I use to avoid teaching in schools?
