In your news item on our report The Good Teacher Training Guide 2009, you say “universities have raised concerns about the report, claiming data used is unreliable” (“Teacher training league table raises concern over quality of courses”, August 21). It is worth pointing out that this data is a summary of the national performance profiles published by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) on its website. This information has been provided and signed off by the universities. If any want to correct what they submitted, I am sure the TDA would be happy to hear from them.

Professor Alan Smithers, Centre for Education and Employment, Buckingham University.
