Guide Dogs, a UK-wide national charity, has made online citizenship resources available to Scottish teachers.

The packs encourage young people to empathise with those who are blind or partially-sighted, value their own sight, gain a basic understanding of eye care, and understand the work of the charity.

One feature allows pupils to design a safe street for visually-impaired people by thinking about how to reposition dangerous obstacles.

The resources are free, although schools are asked to consider signing up to fundraising events. Packs can be downloaded in nursery, primary and secondary versions, including content aimed specifically at the Scottish secondary curriculum.

Nearly 100 Scottish schools used the lesson plans when they were first made available last year.
