Gwynedd cuts warning

Welsh-medium teaching union UCAC has held a series of emergency meetings across Gwynedd to discuss the future of education in the face of huge budget cuts. The council’s board will meet to decide efficiency savings next week after receiving a budget increase of just 1.1 per cent from the Assembly government, one of the lowest settlements in Wales. The council warned that this could mean cuts to education of between #163;3.1 million and #163;6.3 million, which UCAC called “alarming” and potentially “catastrophic”.
