As the world of Scottish tennis hailed a new local hero in Andrew Murray, Falkirk College may be helping to nurture another potential champion in a very different sport.

Jayne Clason, a 20-year-old hairdressing student at the college, has a double reason for celebration. She has just passed her SVQ level 2 and has learnt she has been given a pound;1,500 award from the college to help develop her judo skills through competitions in the United States and Canada during the summer.

The 2nd dan black belt is the British schools and colleges under-21 champion, a title she has held for the past six years.

Pete Turner, a lecturer in the school of leisure industries at Falkirk College, is her strength and conditioning coach, and predicts she will be a future world champion and Olympic gold medal prospect.
