MIMAC has been used as a resource for teachers incorporating moving image education into the curriculum. One of the schemes likely to be affected is the Movie Factory Project, run by Rowan Paterson, drama teacher at Lochgelly High.
It requires pupils to conceive, write and shoot a six-minute film in a day, supported by MIMAC staff who provide equipment and edit the final cut. The children receive a DVD of their work and, in the process, build confidence and team-working skills.
A spokesperson for the council said a number of alternative providers would compensate for the closure of the facility.
