History and geography should be taught in French to encourage more pupils to take up modern foreign languages, according to the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. The trust suggests that the decline in language take-up could also be arrested by secondaries linking up to employers with overseas business, using gifted and talented pupils as mentors and working with local primaries to engage pupils in languages from a young age.
