Teachers and careers advisers were at the Farnborough Air Show to hear how to inspire pupils to get jobs in the space industry.

Top figures from the sector were there to pass on the information and resources needed to encourage young people into the industry.

David Willetts, minister of state for universities and science, said in a video address that teachers could encourage pupils to study science at school to spark their interest in the wonders of space.

Jeremy Curtis, head of education at UK Space Agency, said: “The sector has many exciting careers for young people. It’s not just about astronauts and rockets - it includes science, communications engineering, project management, design, satellite data applications, software development and more.”

The space and satellite industry supports 68,000 jobs in the UK directly and is expected to expand over the next few years. HW.
