(Photograph) - Hands-on design: Colette Hamill, a P7 pupil at St Patrick’s primary in Coatbridge, shows off one of four large banners depicting the industrial history of the town at the Summerlee Heritage Centre. An exhibition is running throughout the summer.

All 53 pupils in their final year contributed to the banners as part of their art and design course, backed by a pound;2,000 grant from the Scottish Arts Council. A textile designer was brought in to work on the project.

Headteacher Janice McConway said pupils learnt to knit, sew, weave, machine sew, make felt and dye fabrics.
