Hard done-by TAs need support and development rather than undermining

My school was saddened by the reporting of the IoE report. Our TAs are highly valued by pupils, teachers and parents.

Analysis of examination results demonstrates the positive impact TAs have in enabling students to succeed. SEN students achieve the highest value added because of TA support. The thrust of your editorial - that “there is no substitute for a good teacher” - poses a false dichotomy. The professionalism of teachers is an essential pre-condition to success. But until UK plc can afford to provide one-to-one tuition for its young people, we must recognise the invaluable service TAs provide. Be careful before undermining co-professionals’ morale.
