DAVID Hargreaves has been appointed as the new vice-chair of the Government’s standards task force. He replaces Tim Brighouse, Birmingham’s chief education officer, who resigned two weeks ago.

Professor Hargreaves is based in the school of education at Cambridge University. He is an expert on professional development and a former chief inspector for the Inner London Education Authority. He has been a member of the task force since it was set up in May 1997.
