Truetube, an alternative to controversial video site YouTube, allows children to upload clips of themselves discussing social dilemmas and performing charitable acts rather than the pranks and lip-synching that characterise its namesake.

From “Would you rather be beautiful or clever?” and “Does Pete Doherty, right, have a duty to behave?” the page tackles everything from philosophy to popular culture. Teenagers can also upload clips of themselves raising money or taking part in community projects, and view interviews with a Death Row prisoner, former Iraq war hostage Norman Kember and the best friend of a teen murder victim.

“This is an excellent free resource for PSE and citizenship with content presented in an up-to-the-minute format,” said a spokesman for independent production company CTVC, makers of the site.
