Head hits out at hard cash rule

A HEADTEACHER has criticised government criteria for specialist school funding as “unrealistic and unfair”. Brian Glover, principal of Soar Valley community college, Leicester, raised pound;7,000 more than the pound;50,000 required for specialist status. But the bid was rejected because the bulk of the sponsorship was in kind - including a pound;40,000 alarm system from a local firm - not in cash. Mr Glover said schools should not be expected to raise the sum in hard cash.
