A headteacher who did not have a single day off school in 35 years retired last week.
Mike Leighton, 57, spent all but two terms of his teaching career at Holy Trinity primary, in Blackburn, the school he attended as a child. He said:
“Occasionally I’ve come in on crutches because of a sports injury, or lain down on the staffroom floor looking for tea and sympathy, but I suppose I’m quite hardy really, and I never take tablets.” He attributed his good health to a love of sport.
Last September, Mr Leighton became head of Intack primary, also in Blackburn.
