Headteacher Clare Considine said the new measure proved to parents that progress was being made at the school despite its less impressive raw scores. The school's five A* to C figure is 39 per cent, well below average and middle of the Birmingham LEA table.
At Bordesley Green, 90 per cent of girls are from ethnic minorities and more than half qualify for free meals.
Language development strategies - such as reading clubs and peer mentoring - and information technology across the curriculum have made a difference in pushing pupils further, according to the headteacher.
"We constantly look for ways to maintain motivation. We have school councils and pupil-led responsibilities to ensure we keep them in the loop.
We work through them rather than imposing things on pupils."
