Heads ‘failing’ bright

A headteacher launched an attack on her fellow school leaders on Wednesday over their failure to cater for the brightest pupils. Liz Allen, head of Newstead Wood School for Girls in Kent, said there was a “huge reluctance” among heads to focus attention on their top pupils. Many were too focused on getting average pupils up from D to C grades, which would boost their league- table scores, she suggested, speaking ahead of the Girls’ Schools Association annual conference in Harrogate.
