THE National Professional Qualification for Headship is to become mandatory for all new heads in 2004, the Government has announced.

New heads will either have to have completed the course, which is run by the National College for School Leadership, or have signed up for it. Existing and acting heads will not be required to have the qualification.

The moves are outlined in a Government consultation document, www.dfes.gov.ukconsultationnpqh
