I am writing in response to the article “Only science is truly magical” (FE Focus, October 6) by Dennis Hayes. I can’t believe that an educational supplement would print something so offensive to complementary medicine and its practitioners.

The fact that Mr Hayes lists casting spells and charms, crystal healing, reiki, homeopathy, reflexology and aromatherapy in the same category indicates he has no idea of what he is talking about. They are very different.

Physical and mental health goes far beyond “science”, and complementary medicine can vastly improve a person’s well-being where conventional medicine has failed. The language used by Mr Hayes shows it is in fact himself who is the “infantile” one.
