Sixteen Assembly members have signed a “statement of opinion” calling for the government to close the achievement gap for deaf pupils. As TES Cymru reported, deaf children in Wales are 30 per cent less likely to achieve five GCSEs at grades A*-C than their hearing peers. The statement calls the gap unacceptable and urges improvements to education and support services.
