A new charity is being launched to provide training to schools and colleges to help them become inclusive. Disability Equality in Education has a national network of trainers who will work with headteachers, LEA officers, SENCOs, educational psychologists and whole school staff as well as in further education colleges and universities. The trainers will run courses structured to schools’ specific requirements. Among the issues addressed are inclusion and challenging behaviour, medical model and social model thinking, examples of good practice and an inclusion action plan. The sessions consist of presentations, exercises and discussion and are designed and delivered by disabled trainers.

Funded by Comic Relief and the Department for Education and Employment, Disability Equality in Education aims to help schools, colleges and education authorities to fulfil the ideological and practical challenges of the government to become more inclusive while raising standards.
