IN THE case of Tracy and Tracey (Friday magazine, January 22) R Daubney reports how he unwittingly transformed a shy pupil by mistakenly telling her parents that she was a popular, sociable member of her class.

I once taught a Year 7 girl who seemed on course for spending the rest of her school life in the background. As an experiment I set out to behave towards her as if she were a cheerful, popular class member. Her attitude and that of her peers changed dramatically.
