If Charles Clarke is Falstaff, might David Miliband be Prince Hal? After all, the eggheaded young minister is obviously pure of heart never being one to drink until the early hours.

And, as he fights a cap on teachers’ hours, the young minister would seem to share the young prince’s attitude to taking time off. As he says in Henry IV (Act 1, Scene 2): “If all the years were playing holidays, To sport would be as tedious as to work.”
