STOCKPORT College has defended its equal opportunities policy after newspaper accusations of over-sensitive political correctness. A staff training handout warns that words such as “history” could be sexist, “blackmail” has racist connotations and th phrase “taking the mickey” might be offensive to Irish people. College spokesman Richard Tuson said the college was proud of its equal opportunities record. He said: “We defend the right to discourage language which might offend someone.”
