Ministers have approved a pound;16 million scheme for 40 primaries in Surrey to provide satellite-monitored buses for the school run. The county has one of the highest levels of school-run traffic in Britain, with more than 70 per cent of children chauffeured to school by thir parents, compared with a national average of 30 per cent.
The 150 buses in the Pegasus Project will have videos to entertain children and a tracking system which parents will eventually be able to use to follow the progress of buses via the Internet.
