We have already commented on the onerous yardsticks being used to judge the success of new community schools. The number of pupils who brush their teeth at least twice a day springs memorably to mind. “Ring of confidence” we called that on July 21.

Further confidence that all possible measures are being deployed in he drive for success comes in an advertisement from Edinburgh City Council whose education department is seeking three “working together co-ordinators”. Don’t ya just love it?

Part of their remit will be to develop an understanding of the “broad principals” behind such schools. So, size does matter . . .
