The Government is making excellent progress towards meeting its “ambitious but realistic” target of 50 per cent of young people entering higher education, Margaret Hodge, HE minister, told Lib Dem MP John Pugh. She issued figures which showed a modest increase of 1 per cent of pupils from state schools (49 to 50 per cent) and further education colleges (21 to 22 per cent) going on to HE.
