The number of young people in Wales staying on in full-time education has barely changed in the past three years. Figures from Careers Wales, the adult and student careers advice service, show 74.5 per cent of 2003‘s Year 11 pupils stayed on at school or college, up from 73.3 per cent the previous year and virtually unchanged from 74.3 in 2001.

The number of boys staying on has declined from 70.1 in 2000 to 68.6 per cent, although the numbers in work-based training or employment have risen.

Four out of five 18-year-old school and college-leavers stayed on in education.
