Off-message North Lanarkshire hasn’t been having a good press. The near pound;5 million black hole in the accounts of its direct labour organisation might well have been avoided, of course, if it had adopted the motto of the education department, “Aiming Higher”.
But it is North Lanarkshire’s literacy rather than numeracy problems which have just caught our attention.
A message from council leader Harry McGuigan to local taxpayers is liberally sprinkled with grammatical and spelling infelicitudes such as “we believe that we have a duty to provided (sic) our young people with the best possible start in life”.
