Highland RFC has received a pound;3,000 boost from SportScotland’s Sportsmatch scheme which will be ploughed into the youth side of the club. Highland intends to promote rugby to first and second year pupils in the area and will set up a league for S1 and S2 pupils. The club will also identify teachers to work with youth coaches and school sports co-ordnators.

“Highland have made great strides to improve their youth section and this money will help their good work to be continued,” said Graham Cormack, the Scottish Rugby Union’s development officer for the Highlands and Islands.

“We hope other clubs in the area will follow this example and promote the youth game in the area.”
