(Photograph) - Today 200 historic Valentine's cards, dating from 1830 to the 1960s go on show at the Royal Museum in Chambers Street, Edinburgh. The cards first appeared in Britain in the 18th century, and we now spend more than Pounds 26 million a year on them. The cards belong to the Shell UK art collection. In 1938, Shell became the first commercial company to send Valentine cards to "lady motorist" customers, a tradition the company continued until 1973. Some of the cards, including the one above, are featured in the exhibition, which runs until April 13.
