The article is about humans’ relationship with the environment. Pupils at KS2 could look at how the Romans shaped the Thames for their own purposes.

The legacy of this was the founding of London.

The impact of climatic and environmental change could also be studied in KS3. Some historians believe environmental change worsened a crisis in food supplies in the empire and promoted diseases. This could be an interesting study in historical interpretations.

KS3 and KS4 pupils could compare Dunwich’s disappearance with other settlements which disappear for more “normal” reasons.
