Remember them

War veterans’ frontline experiences are at the centre of new resources for schools.

The charity Poppyscotland and Learning and Teaching Scotland, will launch materials for children aged three to eight on Monday. They will include A Chat with . Poppy Scotland, a film for younger children in the form of a chat show. There will also be extra archive footage and subtitles for films.

There is a poetry competition for P4s-S3s. The starting point for Poppy Poetry will be photos of conflict by acclaimed war photographer Robert Wilson, from his work with British troops in Baghdad, Iraq, and Helmand Province in Afghanistan.

“It is vital young people know about conflicts, remembrance and the role of veterans in their communities,” said Poppyscotland chief executive Ian McGregor. “The additional materials and the poetry competition will enable pupils to learn in a way that is both creative and engaging.”

These are the second round of materials, following an initial launch last year.
