Tackling homophobia

Anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card turns its attention to sexuality with a new resource pack: Homophobia: Let’s Tackle It!

What is it?

Available from www.srtrc.orgresourceshomophobia, the pack includes a teaching guide, video and online resources such as:

My New Neighbours. Pupils are presented with profiles such as “black man”, “footballer” or “gay man” and are asked who they would prefer to be their new neighbour and why. It encourages pupils to discuss stereotypes and prejudice; at the end you reveal that the profiles are in fact the same person.

Football and homophobia. After reading case studies, pupils are asked to discuss the consequences of homophobia in sport. They consider whether footballer Justin Fashanu committed suicide because of homophobia.
