Education Secretary Michael Russell and pupils across the country will meet Mary, Queen of Scots today - virtually.

From 1pm to 2.30pm, pupils will have the chance to engage with Scottish history and find out more about the life of Mary, Queen of Scots via the schools’ intranet, Glow.

Jackie Lee of Artemis Cultural and Educational Services will be taking on the persona of Mary, Queen of Scots during her last day in Scotland before fleeing to England. Choosing this point in her life allows Mary to relate her memories of both France and Scotland and express concerns about moving to England.

She will be surrounded by objects to give insight into her life at that time; pupils will be able to discover more by asking questions throughout the Glow Meet session.

Mr Russell will open the event - a collaboration between Learning and Teaching Scotland and Historic Scotland, hosted by the National Archives in Edinburgh - and will discuss with pupils what it means to be Scottish, as well as sharing his thoughts on learning about history and “meeting” Mary, Queen of Scots.
