History rules ‘defy criteria’

The Historical Association has written to the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority claiming that the new rules for History AS and A-level are arbitrary, muddled, and more likely to destroy standards than raise them. “The changes defy all sensible historical and educational criteria,” said Christine Counsell, chair of the association’s secondary education committee.
