The National Association of Social Workers in Education has warned that a lack of scrutiny “denies many children an effective education” (“Home education review sparks battle over lack of regulation”, April 17). No figure is given for us to evaluate its use of the term “many”. Yet 8 per cent of pupils in our very scrutinised school system have no GCSEs at 19. Who are we to comment? Additional scrutiny of home schooling and unnecessary administration will add enormous costs, and could harm the education offered. It is unlikely to add value. Perhaps the association’s slogan - “Working to promote school attendance” - suggests it has a different agenda.
