Professor Steven Gross, director of brain injury rehabilitation and cognitive development at the International Centre for the Enhancement of Learning Potential, stressed the need for teachers to develop positive relationships with the parents of special needs children.
Parents need to develop an optimistic view of their child, but too often this is not the case and teachers should offer parents hope and belief, Professor Gross said.
“Any pessimistic approach will discourage parents and make them feel they have failed. Without hope nothing will change.”
