Days at the races are being promoted as the latest way to teach maths and a range of other subjects.

The British Horseracing Education and Standards Trust runs days that allow children aged 3 to 13 to get behind the scenes at a racecourse.

Betting is banned, but pupils are allowed into the jockeys’ weighing and changing rooms, the sauna area and the parade ring, with a chance to have a go at practical maths, weighing themselves and measuring the hurdles.

Visits take place all over the country.
