Glasgow secondary pupils are this month planning, cooking and serving fine-dining meals at some of the city’s top hotels and restaurants.

This marks the culmination of the 15th year of the city’s Culinary Excellence programme, offered to hospitality students in 11 schools.

Pupils spend half a day each week training in restaurants, over 12 weeks. This year, 140 Glasgow pupils are showing off the skills they have gained to more than 200 invited guests at the following venues:

- Lochend Community High - Chardon d’Or

- Cleveden Secondary - Hotel du Vin

- Bannerman High - Millennium Hotel

- Drumchapel High - Hilton

- St Thomas Aquinas Secondary - Thistle Hotel

- St Andrew’s Secondary - Radisson Blu

- Eastbank Academy - City Inn

- Smithycroft Secondary - Blythswood Hotel

- Springburn Academy - Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld

- Shawlands Academy - Celtic Football Club

- John Paul Academy - Novotel.

All pupils visit Gleneagles Hotel, whose Michelin-starred chef, Andrew Fairlie, is a strong supporter of the programme. They also work in the kitchen and front of house for senior citizens’ Christmas lunches in Glasgow City Chambers.

More than 60 per cent of those who have completed the course have gone on to a job in the hospitality sector.
