SUCH a poor curry won’t have put Mr Woodhead in any better mood for the select committee’s report on OFSTED. The inquiry drew an impassioned response from the education world, with some 250 submissions flooding on to committee clerk Matthew Hamlyn’s Westminster desk.

Astonishingly, though, it has been eclipsed by the committee’s latest inquiry. More than 330 submissions have so far been received and they’re still coming in.

What could be the source of so much comment? Nothing more nor less than the role of school governors. The Diary never realised it was such a hot topic ...
