How to get rid of weak teachers

I ENJOYED reading the article “Beware imposters” by John Caunt (TES, October 23). However, excellent references are often given to rid an establishment of a weak employee and a phone call will not enlighten anyone as to the candidate’s suitability.

References would be worthwhile if they could be drawn from areas where spinning a good yarn or writing a brilliant piece of fiction were not components of fast-track career moves.

Questions of suitability will only be answered adequately by the consumers or their representatives. Until this has been managed and linked to job prospects the chances of employing several more Sion Jenkins are a reality for all who indulge in blinkered selection processes.
