The Dunfermline High pupil achieved nine Standard grades this summer but, as she has a December birthday, was faced with hanging on at school until Christmas.
Instead, Lauren enrolled on the June start programme to kick-start her career as a nursery nurse.
She admitted: "I wasn't getting on with my teachers and my attendance at school wasn't good. I just didn't want to be there. At college you're treated like an adult and call the tutors by their first name. I really enjoy it."
Lauren's father Eoin has noticed a change for the better in his daughter's attitude at home.
He said: "Lauren's become much more considerate since starting college. She helps around the house and even offers to make her mum and me a cup of coffee now."
