How long?

This is a genuine story of “mystery surrounds”. Let us begin at the beginning, a good way to start problem-solving when it concerns a textbook, Maths in Action: part 5, which is, as mathematicians will know, reckoned to be ideal preparation for the Revised Higher.

A problem facing one independent secondary in Dundee (go on, guess) was how to get hold of this essential book for the start of term when it was not currently available.

The school was told publishers Nelson Blackie, which has now closed its Scottish operation, had used printers in Musselburgh but had now switched. For some unknown reason - cost? - the book is now being printed in China and had been delayed en route.

Two thousand copies are being shipped over and should arrive hopefully by the end of October.

What was that song again?
