Students on teacher training courses in England continue to complain about the new regime. Graham Holloway (“Top student may be forced to quit”, TES, May 25) points out that those in Wales are not required to take these tests and wonders if they are allowed to teach in England once qualified. The answer is a clear “yes”.

Neither trainers in Wales nor the Nationa Assembly can see a strong case for these tests, given that other methods are available to ensure that the appropriate skills are acquired. A student who successfully completes a course in Wales can qualify to teach in both England and Wales without taking the tests.
