Top marks for FE in the New Year honours go to Chris Hughes, retiring chief executive of the Learning and Skills Development Agency, who is awarded the CBE.

Other notable honours for service to the sector include OBEs for Geoff Daniels, a director of the Learning and Skills Council, and Nigel Robbins, principal of Cirencester college.

Chris Hughes told FE Focus: “I am thrilled to be honoured in this way. I take it as a tribute to the work of the whole FE and post-16 sector and of LSDA as well as a personal tribute of which I am very proud.”

A spokesperson for the LSDA said: “We are delighted that Chris has been awarded such an honour. It is a testimony to the fantastic work he has done to promote further education and training through his work as a teacher as well as a leader.

“He has provided fantastic leadership and transformed the LSDA into an organisation with serious standing in the sector.”
