The perfect speedy revision guide on the Second World War, this book is great for teachers. Author Chris Martin has exhaustively compiled facts, figures, timelines and quotations to provide more than 200 fascinating lists ranging from animals at war to boy soldiers who lied about their age to join the action and even movie stars who fought. But my personal favourite is the story of the origin of Spam, first produced for soldiers in 1937 and referred to as “ham that didn’t pass its physical”. My thoughts exactly.

World War II: Book of Lists is published on 5 December by The History Press.
